What Is Tsougria?
Tsougria (also written Tsougkrias) is a small, uninhabited island located approximately 3 nautical miles south of Skiathos town. It has two sandy beaches, crystal-clear turquoise water, a small seasonal taverna (open June–August), and almost no development of any kind.
It’s one of the most popular short boat trips from Skiathos — and for good reason.
How to Get There
Option 1: Public Ferry Boat (€10 per person)
Several traditional passenger ferry boats depart Skiathos Old Port for Tsougria every morning between 09:30–12:00, returning between 14:00–17:00. Simple, cheap, but you’re on their schedule — and in August those boats can be packed.
Option 2: Transfer (€30–50 per boat)
Private transfers from the port run on demand — call or WhatsApp us and we’ll send one. You choose your departure and return time. Better if you want the island to yourselves in the early morning, before the tour boats arrive.
Option 3: Rent a Boat — Best Option
The 30HP Olympic 450 no-license boat reaches Tsougria in 20–25 minutes from Skiathos port. This is our recommended option: you arrive when you want, stay as long as you want, and can combine with a stop at nearby Arkos island (Tsougria’s smaller sister, adjacent). Total freedom, no timetable.
What to Do There
The island doesn’t have much infrastructure — that’s the appeal — but here’s what’s worth your time:
- Main beach (Mega Amos): 200m sandy beach, calm water, seasonal snack bar. Loungers for hire.
- Micro Amos: The smaller northern beach. Quieter, better snorkelling. Accessible by a 5-min path.
- Snorkelling: The rocks at the western tip have excellent marine life — sea urchins, octopus, small fish shoals.
- Hiking: A basic path crosses the entire island in 40 minutes. The views of Skiathos town from the high point are worth it.
Best Time to Visit
Early June and September are ideal — less crowded, water still warm. In August, arrive before 9am or after 4pm to avoid the ferry boat rush.
