Getting to Skiathos From the Mainland
Skiathos has its own airport, but many visitors arrive or depart via Volos — the closest mainland port, roughly 2.5 hours from Athens by car or train. From Volos, the options range from 2-hour slow ferries to a direct private transfer in under 90 minutes.
Option 1: Conventional Ferry
The standard Volos–Skiathos ferry is the workhorse of the route — big, slow, and reliable. It takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes and runs 2–3 times daily in season.
- Cost: ~€18–22 per person
- Vehicle: Cars accepted
- Comfort: Deck seating, basic café
- Luggage: Unlimited
- Booking: hellenic-seaways.gr or ferryhopper.com
Option 2: High-Speed Catamaran
The Flying Cat catamaran service from Volos cuts the journey to approximately 1 hour 30 minutes — same seats as the ferry but half the time, which matters when you’ve just landed at Athens airport and you’re counting the hours to the beach.
- Cost: ~€32–40 per person
- Vehicle: Passengers only
- Comfort: Air-conditioned seating
- Runs: June–September only
Option 3: Flying Dolphin Hydrofoil
The classic Greek island hydrofoil — fast, noisy, and slightly terrifying in a fun way. These have been running the Aegean routes since the 1970s and the retro vibe is part of the appeal. Journey time approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.
- Cost: ~€35–45 per person
- Vehicle: Passengers only
- Runs: Irregular schedule, check ahead
Option 4: Private Transfer
Our private transfer service from Skiathos port to Volos harbour runs door-to-boat in approximately 75–90 minutes depending on sea conditions. No ticket office, no timetable, no standing on a hot quay with your bags waiting for a delayed ferry.
- Cost: From €350 per boat (up to 8 passengers)
- Departs: Any time you choose, 24/7
- Luggage: Unlimited
- Stops: Optional — we can detour via Skopelos or a beach en route
- Comfort: Private, no crowds, no queues
