About Sklithri Beach
Sklithri (sometimes spelled Sklithri) is a narrow, partly-organized sandy beach on Skiathos’s south coast, approximately 6 km southwest of Skiathos Town. It sits between Achladies and Kanapitsa, but unlike its busier neighbours, Sklithri’s main draw isn’t sunbathing — it’s the traditional seafood taverna that sits practically on the sand, serving some of the freshest fish on the island.
Getting There
By Land
- Bus: Stop 13 (between Achladies and Kanapitsa). About 12 minutes from Skiathos Town.
- Car/Scooter: 8-minute drive. Limited roadside parking.
- Walk: 10 minutes from Achladies along the coast road.
By Boat
Sklithri faces south into a narrow cove. The beach is small and the anchorage is modest. From Skiathos Port, a rental boat reaches Sklithri in approximately 12–15 minutes.
Transfer
A transfer from Skiathos Town takes about 10 minutes. Cost: approximately €20–30.
The Beach
Sklithri is a narrow stretch of sand — perhaps 150 metres long — with clear, calm water. It’s partly organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, but the real star is the taverna.
The Taverna
The taverna at Sklithri is one of Skiathos’s most beloved seafood restaurants. It’s family-run, multi-generational, and the fish is caught locally — often by family members. Tables are set just metres from the water. Signature dishes include:
- Grilled octopus with oregano and olive oil
- Fresh-caught sea bream and sea bass
- Shrimp saganaki (in tomato and feta sauce)
- Greek salad with local ingredients
- Chilled ouzo, tsipouro, and local wine
Facilities
- Sunbeds and umbrellas (€8–10 per set, limited)
- The taverna (food, drinks, toilets)
- Showers
- No watersports
Boat Anchoring Tips
The cove is small and narrow. Drop anchor in 3–4 metres. Space is very limited — 2–3 boats maximum. An alternative is to anchor at nearby Achladies or Kanapitsa and walk (5–10 minutes along the coast).
Nearby Beaches to Combine
- Achladies (1 km east, 3 minutes by boat) — larger, family-friendly beach
- Kanapitsa (1 km west, 3 minutes by boat) — popular beach cove
- Tzaneria (1.5 km west) — quiet tree-lined cove
- Vassilias (2 km east) — organized sandy cove
What Sea Skiathos Offers
- Self-drive no-license boat rental: 12–15 minutes from port. Anchor and swim before lunch at the taverna.
- Skippered dining cruise: Our captain takes you to Sklithri for a long, leisurely lunch, then explores nearby coves in the afternoon. One of our most popular half-day options.
- Water taxi: Direct transfers for a lunch outing. We’ll drop you and return when you’ve finished eating — no need to rush.
Best Time to Visit
- Lunchtime (12:30pm–2:30pm): The obvious choice. Book ahead in July and August — the taverna is small and popular.
- Morning: Swim first, then lunch. The beach is quiet before 11am.
- June and September: The taverna is less rushed. You can linger over a long Greek lunch without feeling pressured.
- Evening: The taverna serves dinner with views of the sunset reflecting off the south-coast water.
