5 Secret Beaches in Skiathos Only Reachable by Boat

Why the Best Beaches Are Hidden

Skiathos has 60+ beaches, but most visitors cycle through the same 8–10 accessible by road or the island’s famous yellow bus. The secret? The best beaches are the ones the bus can’t reach.

Here are five that only a boat can unlock. Rent a boat in Skiathos →

1. Megali Aselinos — The Wild North

A long sandy stretch on the northern coast, facing directly into the Aegean wind. This is the Wild North proper — completely undeveloped, no beach bars, no umbrellas, no crowds. Just sand, wind, and the occasional goat on the cliffs above. Anchor offshore and swim in.

Time from port: 35 minutes. Best in: June and September.

2. Kechria — Pine Forest to the Sea

A tiny pebble cove tucked under a pine forest — the kind of spot you’d miss entirely from the road even if there was one. The contrast of dark pebbles, turquoise water, and dense green forest is unlike anything else on the island.

Time from port: 30 minutes north. Depth: Excellent snorkelling — 2–8m visibility.

3. Glyfa — The Natural Waterslide

A local favourite — and I mean proper local, the kind of spot the ticket guy at the port will recommend if you ask nicely — known for a smooth limestone shelf that acts as a natural waterslide into a deep pool. Kids and adults alike obsess over it.

Time from port: 25 minutes. Warning: Only accessible in calm seas.

4. Mandraki — Emerald Lagoon

A sheltered lagoon on the southern coast with gin-clear water where you can see the seabed in 4 metres, occasional sea turtles drifting through, and almost zero boat traffic — most captains don’t know about the shallow entrance channel.

Time from port: 20 minutes. Best time: Early morning.

5. Kastro Cove — Below the ruins

The rocky cove directly beneath the ancient Kastro citadel — swim from your boat to the shore, then climb the goat path up to the ruins. You’ll likely have the cove to yourselves, and looking up at 800-year-old walls from the water is properly dramatic.

Time from port: 40 minutes northwest. Combine with: A walk up to Kastro itself.
