What We See People Forget (Every Single Day)
Running a boat rental operation, we see the same mistakes made hundreds of times per season. People bring too much, forget the essentials, and arrive back burnt, dehydrated, or wishing they’d packed a waterproof phone case.
This checklist fixes all of that.
The Non-Negotiables
These are the things we see forgotten most often at the dock — don’t be the person who shows up without them: — waterproof, and reapply every 2 hours
- Sunglasses — polarised for glare reduction on the water
- Hat — a wide-brim hat you don’t mind getting wet
- Water — minimum 1.5L per person, more in August
- Valid ID / passport copy — required for rental documentation
- Cash — some tavernas and anchoring spots are cash only
On the Water Essentials
- Waterproof phone case — non-negotiable near salt water
- Light coverup / sarong — for wind protection when underway
- Reef-safe sunscreen — protect Skiathos’ marine life
- Motion sickness bands — for those prone to sea sickness in chop
- Dry bag — for phone, keys, wallet, camera
Snacks & Food
You’ll be hungry. We provide a cooler with ice on every rental, and most supermarkets near the port sell sealed snacks. Our recommendations: — simple, no-mess boat food
- Fruit — grapes and watermelon are refreshing on the water
- Sealed snacks — crisps, nuts, dried fruit
- Ice cooler provided — bring ice from a supermarket en route
What NOT to Bring
- Flip-flops with no grip (deck shoes or bare feet are safer)
- Heavy electronics that can’t get wet
- Glass bottles (we prohibit glass on board for safety)
- Excessive luggage — a day bag per person maximum
- Heavy books — your eyes will be on the water
Photography Tips
Golden hour on the Aegean is unreal — and your phone camera will struggle to capture it properly. Bring a waterproof action camera or an older phone you’re comfortable getting wet. The best shots happen when you’re not worried about dropping something expensive. Book a boat in Skiathos →
