Agia Eleni Beach Skiathos: The Far-West Sandy Escape

About Agia Eleni Beach

Agia Eleni is one of the last beaches on Skiathos’s southwestern coast, 14 km from Skiathos Town. It’s a long, sandy beach that marks the transition between the developed south coast and the wilder western side of the island. Its distance from town means it’s quieter than beaches like Koukounaries or Banana, yet it still offers good facilities.

Getting There

By Land

  • Bus: Stop 25 — the penultimate stop before Koukounaries. About 30 minutes from Skiathos Town.
  • Car/Scooter: 20-minute drive. Parking area available but small.
  • Walk: Walkable from Koukounaries (15 minutes along a coastal path).

By Boat

Agia Eleni faces southwest with a sandy bottom. Anchoring is straightforward in 3–6 metres. From Skiathos Port, a 30HP rental boat reaches Agia Eleni in approximately 40–45 minutes.

Transfer

A transfer from Skiathos Town takes about 30 minutes. Cost: approximately €45–55.

The Beach

Agia Eleni is approximately 400 metres of soft sand with clear, shallow water. The western end of the beach is less crowded and known for being nudist-friendly. The beach is backed by a mix of pine trees, olive groves, and a few small hotels.

Facilities

  • Sunbeds and umbrellas (€8–12 per set) — mainly in the eastern half
  • One beach bar
  • Showers
  • Wheelchair-accessible boardwalk

The Two Sides of Agia Eleni

  • Eastern end: Organized, with sunbeds, the beach bar, and most facilities. Good for families.
  • Western end: Quieter, less developed, nudist-friendly. Natural shade from trees.

Boat Anchoring Tips

Anchor in 3–5 metres on sand. The bay is open to the southwest but generally calm in summer. The western end provides more space and privacy for anchoring.

Nearby Beaches to Combine

  • Koukounaries (1.5 km east, 5 minutes by boat) — the famous pine-backed beach
  • Banana (2 km east) — popular party beach
  • Mikri Banana (2.5 km east) — nudist-friendly, more secluded
  • Xenia (1 km east) — quiet beach near Koukounaries
  • Agistros (approximately 2 km further west) — secluded, lush green setting

What Sea Skiathos Offers

  • Self-drive no-license boat rental: 40–45 minutes from port. The full south-coast route. One of the more rewarding long-distance day trips.
  • Skippered full-day tour: Explore the entire southwest coast — Koukounaries, Banana, Agia Eleni, and beyond. Your captain knows every cove.
  • Water taxi: Private transfers to this quieter end of the south coast.

Best Time to Visit

  • June and September: Warm water, minimal crowds, all facilities open.
  • Morning: The western end is particularly peaceful in the early hours.
  • July–August: Quieter than Koukounaries or Banana even in peak season. Sunbeds fill by late morning on the organized side.
  • Weekdays: Noticeably quieter than weekends.
