Mikros Aselinos Beach Skiathos: The Quieter, Smaller North-Coast Sandy Cove

About Mikros Aselinos

Mikros Aselinos (Little Aselinos) is the smaller, more intimate counterpart to Megali Aselinos, located approximately 12 km northwest of Skiathos Town. While Megali Aselinos is a long, wild stretch of sand, Mikros Aselinos is a compact, partly-organized cove surrounded by verdant hills that create a more sheltered and tranquil atmosphere. It’s one of the most beautiful and least-visited beaches on the island.

Getting There

By Land

A dirt road leads to the area, but it’s rough and requires a 4x4 or quad bike. The last stretch to the beach is on foot. Challenging — most visitors arrive by boat.

By Boat

Mikros Aselinos faces northwest into a small, sheltered cove. From Skiathos Port, a 30HP rental boat reaches Mikros Aselinos in approximately 40–45 minutes following the north coast route past Kastro, Ligaries, and Kechria.

Transfer

A transfer from Skiathos Town takes about 30–35 minutes. Cost: approximately €45–55.

The Beach

Mikros Aselinos is approximately 150 metres of sand in a compact, green-fringed cove. The water is turquoise and clear. It’s partly-organized — a small number of sunbeds and a seasonal beach bar — but retains a peaceful, undeveloped character.

Facilities

  • Limited sunbeds (€8–10 per set, seasonal)
  • Seasonal beach bar with drinks and light snacks (June–September)
  • No full restaurant
  • No showers
  • Natural shade from the surrounding hillside vegetation

The Vibe

If Megali Aselinos is wild and windswept, Mikros Aselinos is sheltered and serene. The green hills wrap around the cove, creating a more intimate environment. It’s the kind of beach where you can hear your own breathing — in the best way.

Boat Anchoring Tips

The cove offers decent shelter from northerlies. Anchor in 3–5 metres on sand. The cove is small — space for 2–4 boats.

Nearby Beaches to Combine

  • Megali Aselinos (500m east, 2 minutes by boat) — the long, wild, bigger sibling
  • Kechria (2 km east, 8 minutes by boat) — pine-backed pebble cove with taverna
  • Ligaries (3 km east) — turquoise-water cove
  • Krifi Ammos (3 km west) — hidden sandy cove, very isolated

What Sea Skiathos Offers

  • Self-drive no-license boat rental: Part of our recommended northwest-coast route. 40–45 minutes from port. Weather-dependent.
  • Skippered full-day northwest expedition: Visit both Aselinos beaches, Kechria, Ligaries, and Kastro in a single day. Your captain handles navigation and weather assessment.
  • Water taxi: Direct transfers to this peaceful north-coast haven.

Best Time to Visit

  • Calm, clear days: The north coast requires good weather. Check forecasts.
  • June and September: Best conditions. Minimal other boats.
  • Morning: Calmest water. The green hills catch morning light beautifully.
  • Combine with: Megali Aselinos next door — experience both sides of the Aselinos experience in one trip.
  • Avoid: Rough weather. North coast navigation requires respect.
