Why Choose Achladies Beach
Achladies (sometimes spelled Ahladies) is the first major beach on Skiathos’s southern coast heading west from town. At just 5 km from Skiathos Town, it’s close enough for a quick trip but far enough to feel like a proper beach destination. It combines convenience, excellent facilities, and calm, shallow waters that make it ideal for families with young children.
Getting There
By Land
- Bus: Stop 10 on the main island bus route. Buses run every 15–20 minutes in summer. The journey from Skiathos Town takes about 10 minutes.
- Car/Scooter: 5-minute drive with parking available near the beach.
- Walking: Technically possible (about 45 minutes along the coast road) but not recommended in summer heat.
By Boat
Achladies Bay is a natural cove facing south, well-protected from the prevailing northerly winds. The sandy bottom holds anchors well in 3–5 metres of water. From Skiathos Port, a rental boat reaches Achladies in just 10–15 minutes — making it the perfect first stop on a south-coast cruise.
Transfer
A transfer from Skiathos Port takes under 10 minutes and costs approximately €20–30.
The Beach
Achladies is a sandy beach approximately 400 metres long, backed by hotels and apartments. The water is shallow and clear — ideal for children and less confident swimmers. The beach shelves gently, so you can wade out quite far before it gets deep.
Facilities
- Sunbeds and umbrellas for hire (€8–12 per set)
- Several beachfront tavernas and cafes
- Beach bars serving drinks and snacks
- Showers and changing facilities
- Hotels with pools directly behind the beach (some allow non-guests for a fee)
Boat Anchoring Tips
The bay is a natural cove with good protection. Anchor in 3–5 metres over sand, approximately 30–60 metres from shore. The water is shallow enough to wade ashore in most spots. Keep an eye on occasional traffic from other boats.
Nearby Beaches to Combine
- Vassilias Beach (1.5 km east, back toward town) — another organized cove
- Megali Ammos (3 km east) — the closest beach to town
- Kanapitsa (2 km west) — well-organized family beach
- Tzaneria (just past Kanapitsa, 3 km west) — quiet tree-lined cove
