About Plakes Beach
Plakes is the beach in Skiathos Town — a small, pebbled cove right in the heart of the main settlement, within easy walking distance of everything. It’s not a destination beach in the traditional sense, but rather a convenient swimming spot for those staying in town, with a small harbour, surrounding cafes and tavernas, and a lively urban atmosphere.
Location
Plakes is within Skiathos Town itself, a short walk from the main port, the Old Port, and the pedestrian shopping streets. It’s the most accessible beach on the island — no bus, no car, no boat required. Just walk down from wherever you are in town.
The Beach
Plakes is a modest pebble beach — approximately 100 metres — with clear water and a small boat harbour at one end. The beach is surrounded by cafes, tavernas, and shops, giving it a distinctly urban character. It’s popular with locals and visitors who want a quick swim without leaving town.
Facilities
- Cafes and tavernas directly adjacent
- Small boat harbour
- Sunbeds at some adjacent cafes (with purchase)
- Toilets in nearby cafes and restaurants
- No formal beach organization
The Harbour
The small harbour at Plakes accommodates local fishing boats and small pleasure craft. It adds character and authenticity — you’re swimming in the same water the fishermen work from.
Boat Access
Since Plakes is in Skiathos Town, boat access is essentially returning to port. It’s the starting and ending point for every boat trip on the island, not a destination in itself. However, its harbour facilities make it a convenient meeting point.
What Sea Skiathos Offers

- Post-cruise refreshment: Return from your boat trip, tie up, and walk straight to Plakes for a swim and a drink at the water’s edge.
Best Time to Visit
- Early morning: The town is quiet. The harbour is peaceful. A pre-breakfast swim.
- Late afternoon: Perfect after a day on the boat. Swim, then walk to a taverna for dinner.
- Any time: Convenience is everything — Plakes is always there.
