About Kanapitsa Beach
Kanapitsa is a sheltered sandy cove on Skiathos’s southern coast, approximately 7 km southwest of Skiathos Town. It sits between Achladies and Vromolimnos on the main bus route. Surrounded by pine-covered hills that slope down to the water, the setting is quintessentially Greek — deep green against brilliant blue.
Getting There
By Land
- Bus: Stop 14 on the island bus route. About 15 minutes from Skiathos Town.
- Car/Scooter: 10-minute drive with roadside parking available.
- Walking: 20–25 minutes along the coast road from Achladies.
By Boat
Kanapitsa Bay faces due south, making it well-protected from the northerly meltemi winds that affect the island. The cove has a sandy bottom, good for anchoring in 3–6 metres of water.
From Skiathos Port, a 30HP rental boat reaches Kanapitsa in approximately 15–20 minutes. You’ll pass Megali Ammos, Ftelia, Vassilias, and Achladies along the way.
Transfer
A transfer from Skiathos Town reaches Kanapitsa in about 12 minutes. Cost is approximately €25–35.
The Beach Experience
Kanapitsa is approximately 300 metres of golden sand with clear, calm water. The cove shape shelters it from wind, so the sea is often glassy smooth — excellent for swimming.
Facilities
- Sunbeds and umbrellas (€8–15 per set)
- Two tavernas directly on the beach
- Beach bar
- Showers
- Small boat dock
Jet Ski & RIB Boat Rental
Kanapitsa is our main base for jet ski rental and performance RIB powerboats. The sheltered bay provides direct open-water access to the south, where you can speed across the water safely. You can rent a jet ski here or depart on one of our guided open-water jet ski tours.
Snorkelling
The rocky edges of the cove — particularly the eastern headland — offer good snorkelling. You’ll see small fish, sea urchins, and occasional octopus. Visibility ranges from 5–15 metres depending on conditions.
Boat Anchoring Tips
Anchor in 3–5 metres on sand in the centre of the cove. The bay is well-protected from wind. Watch for swim buoys marking the swimming zone — stay outside them. The eastern side of the cove is slightly quieter.
Nearby to Combine by Boat
- Tzaneria Beach (500m west, 2 minutes by boat) — smaller quiet cove
- Vromolimnos (1.5 km west) — popular organized beach
- Kolios (2 km west) — another sandy cove
- Achladies (2 km east) — larger, family-friendly beach
Tzaneria — Kanapitsa’s Quiet Neighbour
Just around the headland to the west is Tzaneria Beach — a smaller, more intimate cove that’s popular with scuba divers. The snorkelling around the rocky headland between Kanapitsa and Tzaneria is excellent.
