Ftelia Beach Skiathos: The Small Harbour Beach Close to Town

About Ftelia Beach

Ftelia is a compact sandy beach on Skiathos’s south coast, approximately 2 km west of Skiathos Town — just past Megali Ammos. It’s a quiet, low-key alternative to its busier neighbour, with a small fishing harbour at one end and a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere.

Getting There

By Land

  • Bus: Stop 8 on the main route. About 6 minutes from Skiathos Town.
  • Car/Scooter: 4-minute drive. Some roadside parking.
  • Walk: 25 minutes from Skiathos Town along the coast road.

By Boat

Ftelia faces south and is easy to access by boat. The small harbour at the western end provides docking options for small boats. The sandy bottom in the bay offers good anchoring in 3–5 metres. From Skiathos Port, a rental boat reaches Ftelia in just 5–8 minutes.

Transfer

A transfer from the port takes about 5 minutes. Cost: approximately €15–20.

The Beach

Ftelia is approximately 200 metres of sand. The small harbour adds character — you’ll see traditional fishing boats and small yachts moored nearby. The water is clear and calm, and the beach has a more local, less touristy feel than Megali Ammos next door.

Facilities

  • Sunbeds and umbrellas (€8–10 per set)
  • Taverna near the harbour
  • Beachfront cafe
  • Showers
  • Small boat harbour

Why Choose Ftelia

  • Peaceful alternative to Megali Ammos: Same proximity to town, but much quieter
  • Harbour character: The small fishing harbour gives it a more authentic feel
  • Quickest stop from port: Along with Megali Ammos, it’s one of the fastest beaches to reach by boat

Boat Anchoring Tips

Anchor in 3–4 metres on sand in the bay. The harbour at the western end has limited space but can accommodate small boats temporarily. Be mindful of harbour traffic.

Nearby Beaches to Combine

  • Megali Ammos (500m east, 2 minutes by boat) — larger, livelier, beach bars
  • Vassilias (2.5 km west, 8 minutes by boat) — organized sandy cove
  • Achladies (3 km west) — full facilities
  • Skiathos Town (2 km east) — return to port for lunch or shopping

What Sea Skiathos Offers

  • Self-drive no-license boat rental: 5–8 minutes from port. Effectively the closest beach stop after leaving the harbour.
  • Quick transfer: Near-instant transfer from port.
  • Half-day mini-cruise: Combine Ftelia, Megali Ammos, and Vassilias in a 2–3 hour morning or afternoon trip.

Best Time to Visit

  • Morning: Calm water, quiet beach, harbour activity to watch.
  • Any time: Ftelia is rarely crowded due to its smaller size and lower profile.
  • June and September: Ideal — warm water, peaceful atmosphere.
  • July–August: Still manageable. Most visitors walk past to Megali Ammos.
