About Troulos Beach
Troulos is a beautiful sandy beach on Skiathos’s southern coast, 9 km from Skiathos Town. What makes it special is its natural horseshoe-shaped bay — the surrounding hills and headlands create a near-perfect wind shelter. The water here is almost always calm, clear, and shallow, making it one of the safest beaches on the island for children and less confident swimmers.
Why Troulos Stands Out
The name “Troulos” means “dome” in Greek — a reference to the rounded shape of the bay. The shelter it provides is exceptional. Even on days when nearby beaches are choppy, Troulos stays calm. The water is shallow for a long distance, and the sand is soft and golden. It’s consistently rated as one of Skiathos’s top family beaches.
Getting There
By Land
- Bus: Stop 17 on the main route. About 20 minutes from Skiathos Town.
- Car/Scooter: 15-minute drive. Some roadside parking available.
- Walk: You can walk from nearby Agia Paraskevi (15 minutes along the coast).
By Boat
Troulos Bay faces south and is naturally protected by headlands on both sides. The sandy bottom holds anchors well in 3–6 metres of water. From Skiathos Port, a 30HP rental boat reaches Troulos in approximately 25–30 minutes.
Transfer
A transfer from Skiathos Town takes about 20 minutes. Cost: approximately €35–45.
The Beach Experience
The bay is approximately 400 metres wide. The water deepens very gradually — you can wade out 30 metres and still be waist-deep. This makes it excellent for families but also ideal for anyone who wants a relaxed, stress-free swim.
Facilities
- Sunbeds and umbrellas (€8–12 per set)
- Two beachfront tavernas — one specializing in fresh seafood
- Beach bar serving drinks and light snacks
- Showers and changing rooms
- Supermarket and souvenir shop behind the beach
Boat Anchoring Tips
The bay offers excellent shelter. Anchor in 3–5 metres on sand. The horseshoe shape means you’re protected from most wind directions. This is one of the safest anchoring spots on the south coast — ideal if you’re new to boating.
