About Krifi Ammos
Krifi Ammos translates to “Hidden Sand” in Greek — and the name is earned honestly. This secluded, partly-organized sandy cove sits on Skiathos’s far northern coast, approximately 15 km from Skiathos Town. Surrounded by lush green hills that completely conceal it from view until you’re right upon it, Krifi Ammos is Skiathos at its most secretive.
Getting There
By Land
A hiking trail from the Agia Eleni area traverses the island’s interior to reach Krifi Ammos. The hike takes approximately 1.5–2 hours each way. The path is marked but demanding — suitable only for fit hikers. The reward is arriving at a beach that most visitors will never see.
By Boat
The beach faces northwest into a small, sheltered cove. From Skiathos Port, a 30HP rental boat reaches Krifi Ammos in approximately 45–50 minutes, navigating along the north and west coasts. The cove is small and easy to miss if you don’t know what to look for — keep a close eye on the coastline west of Aselinos.
Transfer
A transfer from Skiathos Town takes about 35–40 minutes. Cost: approximately €50–65.
The Beach
Krifi Ammos is approximately 150 metres of soft sand with turquoise water. It’s partly organized — a small seasonal operation provides basic sunbeds and a beach bar in high summer — but the atmosphere is dominated by the natural setting: green hills on three sides, open sea on the fourth, and near-total silence.
Facilities
- Limited sunbeds (€8–10 per set, seasonal and limited)
- Small seasonal beach bar (July–August primarily)
- No full restaurant
- No showers
- Natural shade from surrounding vegetation
The Atmosphere
The defining feeling at Krifi Ammos is privacy. The hills isolate it completely. You feel like you’ve discovered something — which, in a sense, you have. Even at the height of summer, the cove’s remote location and the effort required to reach it keep crowds minimal.
Boat Anchoring Tips
The cove is small and partially sheltered by headlands. Anchor in 3–5 metres on sand. Space is limited — only 4–6 boats can anchor comfortably. Arrive early in peak season.
